Bollywood is one of the biggest film industries in the world. Bollywood has a huge fan base around the world. Hindi movies made its worldwide release all over the world. That is why, Indian actresses is widely recognized not only in India but also in other countries in South Asian, Europe, and Middle East.

Here, I have made a list of top 10 most beautiful Bollywood actressesof all time. When I made this list, I gave much importance on theirperformances, beauty, acting skill, popularity, versatility etc.

 

Madhuri Shankar Dixit:

Bollywood beauty, Madhuri Dixit, deserves to be on top of the list“Top 10 Bollywood Actresses Of All Time”. What makes her claiming such a prestigious position is her Acting ability, Beauty, Dance skill, Popularity, Versatility, Likeness and Icon status. She stole the heart of millions of fans with her beautiful smile and dance along with acting skill.

She is often quoted by the media as one of the best actresses in Bollywood. So far, she has bagged five Filmfare Awards, four for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress. She was nominated 13 times as the Best Actress at the Filmfare which is still a record.

For which films, she was given Filmfare Best Actress Award are- Dil(1991), Beta (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun...! (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). She also won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas (2002). The film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

Madhuri Dixit started her acting career in Rajshri Productions' movieAbodh in 1984. Though it was not a successful film either, she started getting minor and supporting roles. She rose to prominence for her female lead role in N. Chandra's Tezaab in 1988. This blockbuster hit helped her to receive her first Filmfare nomination.

The late 1980s and 1990s were thought to be the golden age for Madhuri Dixit as she gave many hit films, such as- Saajan (1991),Beta (1992), Khalnayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun...! (1994), andRaja (1995), during that time. At that time, she also established herself as one of Hindi cinema’s leading actresses and most accomplished dancers.

Her last film was Aaja Nachle which was released in 2007. In 2008, she was given the Padma Shri, which is India's fourth-highest civilian award by the Government of India.

Besides acting, she also made her debut as judge on the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhlaja 4.

Sridevi is another Indian actress who is blessed with versatile geniuses along with her beauty. She was equally successful in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam films. Sridevi ruled the heart of millions of fans by her soft appearance and heart breaking moves.

This beautiful and talented actress has got four Filmfare Awards, two for Hindi movies, and other two for Tamil cinema and one for Telugu films apiece.

The films for which he was awarded Filmfare Awards (Hindi) are-Chaalbaaz (1990), Lamhe (1992). Other two Tamil and Telugu films are- Meendum Kokila (1982) and Kshana Kshanam (1991).

Sridevi started her acting career as child artist at the age of four in the 1967 Tamil movie Kandan Karunai. In this film, she played the role of young Lord Muruga. She made her debut as an adult in K. Balachander's Moondru Mudichu starring opposite stars, Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan. After that, she was seen pairing up with both Haasan and Rajnikanth in many films.

Besides acting in Tamil films, she also started acting in Telugu movies. A good portion of her Telugu movies were made by K. Raghavendra Rao. She also worked with N. T. Rama Rao, A. Nageswara Rao and Krishna.

Sridevi made her entrance into Hindi movie industry towards the end of her Telugu film career. At the beginning of her Hindi movie career, she paired up with Jeetendra in many of her early movies. Her first Hindi film was Solva Saawan which was released in 1978.

Starring opposite Jeetendra, she could establish herself as star in Bollywood with her second film, Himmatwala, which was blockbuster. After that, she did not look back. She ruled the Bollywood in the 1980s and early 1990s. She took retirement from the industry in 1997 to raise her children.

Bollywood actress, Rekha, will be well remembered in the heart of her fans not only for her beauty but also for her talent. Because of her versatile geniuses, she is recognized as one of the finest actresses of Hindi cinema.

Rekha started her career as a child artist in the Telugu film Rangula Ratnam in 1966. With the successful Kannada film Goa dalli CID 999, she made her debut as an adult starring opposite Rajkumar in 1969.

She made her Hindi film debut with Anjana Safar, which was later retitled Do Shikari. Though she gave many hit films at the beginning of her career, she had to struggle hard and wait till mid-to-late 1970s to get recognition as an actor. Since the 1970s, she was quoted as sex symbol in the Indian media.

In her four decades of film career, she has acted more than 180 films. In most of her films, she played the female-oriented character and took part in both commercial and art cinema. She also received many commercial success and critical praise for her numerous films.

So far she has won three Filmfare Awards, two for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress. She was also given National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in Umrao Jaan. In this film she played the role of a classical courtesan.

She got Filmfare Best Actress Awards for her roles in Khubsoorat(1980), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) films. For her performance inKhiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996), she received the Best Supporting Actress.

Rekha’s transformation from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan is revealed in a book called “Rekha's Mind and Body Temple”. It was published in 1983.

Sharmila Tagore is one of the most successful names in both Bengali and Hindi movie industry. For her performances, she has won several National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards.

The great-grandniece of noted poet Rabindranath Tagore started her career as an actress in Satyajit Ray's 1959 Bengali film Apur Sansar.

In this film, she played the role of an ill-fated bride of the title character. It is heard that when Sharmila Tagore acted in her first Bengali film, she was just fourteen-year-old girl without any acting experience.

This information was found in Ray’s official website. Pairing up with Soumitra Chatterjee, she made her appearance in a number of Ray films.

However, she made her Hindi film debut in Kashmir Ki Kali directed by Shakti Samanta. With this film, she established herself as a popular Hindi film actress. After that she worked in a number of Shakti Samanta’s film.

She is the first Indian actress who appeared in a bikini with the filmAn Evening in Paris which was released in 1967. Though it shocked the conservative Indian audiences, but established Sharmila Tagore as a sex symbol in Bollywood. Later she was followed by Parveen Babi in Yeh Nazdeekiyan (1982), Zeenat Aman in Heera Panna (1973);Qurbani (1980) and Dimple Kapadia in Bobby (1973). Her bikini appearance has made her one of Bollywood’s ten hottest actresses of all time.

From October 2004 to 2011, she worked in the Indian Film Censor Board.

She got married with former Indian cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi

Jaya Bhaduri, also known as Jaya Bachchan, is another Bengali girl who got huge success and popularity in the Hindi film industry.

When she was 15-year-old, she started her acting career as a child artist in Satyajit Ray's Bengali film Mahanagar (1963), co-starring with Anil Chatterjee and Madhabi Mukherjee. Before acting in this film, she had also gathered experience in working with Suman, a 13-minute short film, and Dhanni Meye, a Bengali comedy where she performed as Uttam Kumar's sister-in law.

She made her appearance as an adult in Hrishikesh Mukherjee film,
Guddi in 1971. In this film, she played the role of a 14-year-old school girl.
With the film Bansi Birju in 1972, she first made pair with her future husband Amitabh Bachchan. In the same year, they also acted together in B.R. Ishara's Ek Nazar. But these two films failed to catch the attention of Indian audience.

It was obviously a bad time for her future husband Amitabh Bachchan as he was flop and most of the top actresses refused to work with him. It was Jaya Bachchan who paired with him in Salim-Javed scripted, Zanjeer. It was a blockbuster and it was a big breakthrough for Amitabh Bachchan’s career as it helped him to create an angry-young-man image.

This talented actress won three Filmfare Best Actress Awards and three Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Awards during her film career. It makes her the overall most-awarded performer in the female acting categories. She was given the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.

Being Afghanistan origin, Madhubala was born and brought up in New Delhi, India on 14 February 1933 in a Muslim family. She was one of the most beautiful actresses of her time. Not only that but also she is regarded as one of the finest actresses of all times. She will be remembered in the mind of her fans because of her perfect combination of good looks and charming appeal. She is also widely recognized as one of the most talented actresses in Hindi movie.

Madhubala is her stage name. Her original name is Mumtaz Jahan Begum Dehlavi. Being impressed by her performance, actress Devika Rani gave her the name. The meaning of Madhubala is “a woman of honey”.

At the age of nine, she made her entrance in the movie industry. Her first movie was Basant which was a box office hit. In this film, she played the role of a daughter of the popular actress Mumtaz Shanti. After that, she appeared in a number of films as a child artist.

When she was chosen for her first female lead role opposite Raj Kapoor in Neel Kamal (1947), she was fourteen years old. Though the film was not commercially successful, Madhubala could catch the attention with her performance.

Madhubala was not only popular actress in India but also she was well known in Hollywood too. She was featured in many American magazines such as Theatre Arts.

This beautiful actress died at the age of 36 as she was suffering from ventricular septal defect, which is commonly known as a "hole in the heart".

Bhagyashree made very short appearance in the Hindi film industry. In her short acting career, she didn’t act that much Hindi movies but she is still remembered to her fans because of her natural acting skill.

She first made her appearance in a television serial named Kachhi Dhoop by Amol Palekar. The story of this TV serial was made based on Little Women which was written by Louisa Mary Alcott.

Her acquaintances with acting happened without her expectation. She was requested by her next door neighbor Amol Palekar, who is a well-known actor-director, to act in the TV serial.

After the success of her first TV serial, she also acted in Honi Anhoniand Kisse Miya Biwi Ke.

Her first Hindi film was Maine Pyaar Kiya in 1989. In this film she starred opposite Salman Khan. The film was box office hit. In 1992, she acted in three films- Peepat's Qaid Main Hai Bulbul, K.C. Bokadia'sTyagi and Mahendra Shah's Payal, starring opposite her husband,Himalaya. But these films failed to make any hit in the box office. She also acted in Telugu and Marathi films.

For her role as Suman in the film, Maine Pyar Kiya, she was nominated for Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1990. This year, she was given Filmfare Lux New Face Award.

 

Rani Mukerji:

Though she came from a Bengali origin film-oriented family, Rani Mukerji had to struggle hard to establish herself in the Hindi film industry. Making her short appearance in a Bengali film Biyer Phool(1992), she started her acting career. Her first Hindi film was Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1997) where she starred opposite Shadaab Khan. This film did not commercially do well in the box office, but her role of a rape victim was praised.

Starring opposite Aamir Khan in Ghulam (1998), she got huge success and it was a big breakthrough in her career. In the same year, she also appeared in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai co-starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. With this film, Karan Johar made her directorial debut. It was a hit film. Rani Mukerji made her short appearance in this film and it helped her to get the first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category. After that she appeared in a number of successful movies which helped her to get National and Filmfare awards along with critical acclaim.

 

Kajol Devgan:

The cousin of Rani Mukerji, Kajol, is one of the few top stars in India. This talented actress is also known as one of India’s most successful female actors. She also came from a film family, her mother Tanuja was an actress and her father Shomu Mukherjee was a film director and producer.

Kajol made her debut in Hindi film with Bekhudi (1992). It was not a commercially successful movie. In her second film, Baazigar (1993) opposite Shahrukh Khan, she got her first commercial success.

Kajol made a good on-screen partnership with Shahrukh Khan and these two stars gave many hit films. Some of their successful movies are- Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai(1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and My Name is Khan(2010).

Kajol won five Filmfare Awards for Best Actress and shares the record along with her aunt Nutan for the most Best Actress award performer in the female acting category.

In 2011, she was awarded India’s fourth highest civilization award, Padma Shri, by the Indian government.

 

Nargis Dutt:

The glorious memory of Nargis Dutt will never be faded in the mind of Hindi movie lovers. Her acting skill and beauty will make her alive all the time. This beautiful actress started her career as child artist inTalash-E-Haq (1935). At that time, she was six year old girl. At the age of 14, she got her first chance to act as an adult in Mehboob Khan's Taqdeer in 1943. In this film, she acted opposite Motilal.

In her acting career, she didn’t have to look back as she got never ending popularity for her adult roles. She gave many hit films but she will be remembered for her performance in Mother India in 1957. For her performance in this film, she got the first Filmfare Best Actress Award.

She also received many National and Filmfare awards during her career.

She died at the age of 51 due to cancer. After her dead, her son, Sanjay Dutt, made his first film appearance in Bollywood.

Nargis was her stage name which means "Narcissus", the flower.
